Remember when I bemoaned the fact that I wasn’t invited to Mom’s & Muffins and that I didn’t actually know any of his classmate’s parents (specifically the moms who would be the one to bring the kid to any playdate that took place)?
Well, I recently fixed that. Erin was off on Wednesday the 27th, so I put together an invite and gave it to Isaac’s teachers to put with the kid’s stuff at the end of the day. We decided to do it at the zoo since some of the kids have older siblings who wouldn’t have been able to go to the Tot Spot at the Children’s Museum (yep, sometimes I use my thinking cap).
Anyway, as the day drew closer a few people told me that they would be coming to the zoo, so I was fairly it wasn’t going to completely bomb. The morning of the 27th I got a call from a mom at 9:30 who said they were already there but would be coming out to meet us at 10. Bingo, it already was better attended than half the playdates Erin and I have planned.
10am came…and went.
About the standard 5-10 minutes later some families started rolling in. All told there were 4 families total (out of a possible 10). Funny enough, the parents who came were the ones that always seem to roll in at the same time as Isaac and I do for school. That was a nice bonus. AND, two of the dads came. Who’d have thought that, right?
All told we were there for a little over 2 hours. We alternated between looking at animals outside and cooling off in the air conditioning looking at fish and reptiles since it was around 95 degrees.
We made it through a decent chunk of the zoo and got an amazing nap out of it. But mostly I was happy that I got to meet other parents (and hope that one of them will pick up the ball and organize another one) and so did Erin. I guess sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and do it yourself.
