He goes to bed and everything is fine. He’s calm, unharmed and healthy.
He wakes up, I go in and WHAM!!!
Alien ear has sprung up out of nowhere.
I start thinking back to the day before. Was there anything fishy going on? Did he take a big fall that I’m forgetting? Is it a mosquito bite that I just can’t see the bite under all the redness?
Maybe it’s not as bad as it looks, maybe it will look better out in the light.
Nope, that’s still awful.
I rack my brain, I text Erin with pictures because I just can’t believe it. I keep replaying the day before in my mind…
But you know what? I still have no idea why his ear got that red and that big. It didn’t bother him at all, but it weirded me out. How could his ear just explode overnight like that with seemingly no reason? How is it possible that we don’t know what’s causing it? Surely with something this obvious we would have seen it.
I guess I just need to accept that some things are going to continue to Isaac that I’ll look at and say “where the hell did that come from?”. It will probably just get worse as he gets older.

How’s his ear?
It’s all better now. The next morning the swelling had gone down almost all the way. We found what looks like a bug bite on the top of his ear that we couldn’t see when it was huge and red.
He never seemed bothered the entire time. Trooper.
You know, since kids are “new” and all, stuff like this just happens sometimes. They come up with weird sudden micro-allergies or irritations, and just get over them, as their body’s how-to-fight-bad-shit-index grows.
Just keep an eye on it (though not too close in case it’s contagious!) and make sure it’s not something more serious. Hope the little bugger’s alright by the time I comment!
He’s all healed up. Didn’t miss a beat. His 4th incisor cutting is causing a whole lot more havoc than the ear thing.
So funny…my wife insisted a tick caused a BIG swelling red spot on her head — I look and see nothing. Of course I didn’t look good enough!
